Mopeds are more affordable these days. 1000 dollars and you can get one that will last you a while.
One thing they don't enough is the engine kits for a regular non moped bike add solid rubber tires on eBay and you have decent transportation for short distances. Both together need to be done.
moped maybe faster but you pay insurance.
